Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 2 years employed as a Lifeguard or similar position
  • Possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate
  • Possess valid government issued ID and Social Security Card
  • Required to submit to background check

Job Qualifications

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate
  • Considerable lifeguarding experience and aquatic program coordination
  • Ability to manage budgets schedules and administrative tasks
  • Knowledge of water rescue methods lifeguarding first aid swimming pool safety and customer service principles
  • Preferred certifications include Aquatic Facility Operator AFO Water Safety Instructor WSI Lifeguard Instructor LGI Certified Pool Operator CPO

Job Duties

  • Assist the Recreation Supervisor with recruiting hiring and training aquatics staff
  • Oversee and directly supervise work of facility managers lifeguards and swim instructors
  • Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage for daily operations events and programs
  • Organize and execute in-service training and staff meetings
  • Ensure safety and regulate conduct of pool patrons enforcing policies and rules
  • Measure water chemistry and adjust chemicals to maintain proper balance
  • Maintain accurate records including incident reports water chemistry logs attendance data and payroll
  • Develop and implement emergency action plans and conduct regular drills
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to aquatics staff
  • Address patron complaints ensuring customer satisfaction and conflict resolution
  • Assist in budget planning and monitoring related expenditures
  • Represent the City of Spokane in community outreach efforts promoting programs and recruitment
