Job Requirements
- High school diploma
- Entry-level experience with voice communications systems or central switchboard operations
- Ability to obtain and maintain Class IV Telecommunications Operator Certification through SCCJA
- Knowledge of Federal Communication Commission regulations
- Availability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, 24/7/365
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods for fingerprinting
- Ability to operate radio, phone, and computer systems effectively
- Willingness to respond to on-call emergency recalls
- Must successfully complete background check and medical examination
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working in a public safety dispatch center preferred
- Ability to obtain Class IV Telecommunications Operator Certification within one year
- Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations for public safety communications
- Skilled in operating complex electronic communications equipment
- Ability to function effectively under emergency conditions and heavy traffic
- Proficient in computer use and database management
Job Duties
- Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatches public safety units as needed
- Monitors radio channels for distress calls and conducts scheduled radio checks
- Provides video surveillance monitoring and notifies supervisors of irregular activities
- Maintains accurate logs of radio transmissions and daily dispatch activities
- Enters data into NCIC and conducts wanted person checks
- Processes employee identification cards and fingerprinting for new hires
- Serves as after-hours receptionist and provides customer service
- Receives and categorizes incident reports and disseminates notifications
- Performs additional duties assigned by Public Safety Director or Supervisors
