Job Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Complete orientation materials and pass written exams with at least 80 percent
- Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing
- Ability to perform in stressful situations requiring speed and sustained attention to detail
- Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate surgery department needs
- Ability to prioritize functions
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, move gurneys and equipment, lift instrument sets requiring medium strength
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal range

Job Duties
- Maintain daily recording charts and biological/chemical sterilization tests
- Implement recall procedures for positive biological tests
- Sort reusable materials according to decontamination methods
- Assemble instrument sets and trays accurately and inspect for cleanliness and completeness
- Package, wrap, and label materials correctly for sterilization
- Load and unload sterilizers following proper protocols
- Monitor sterilization processes using mechanical, chemical, and biological indicators
- Store sterilized items properly and monitor storage conditions
- Use standard precautions and personal protective equipment consistently
- Participate in preventive maintenance and report equipment issues
- Assist with supply requisitions and coordinate instrument repair and sharpening
- Precept new orientees and students
- Perform other assigned departmental tasks such as patient transportation
