Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- must complete and pass Basic Arrhythmia class and test upon being hired
- CPR certification required
- ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently
- ability to work under stress in critical situations
- knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology relating to EKG interpretation
- ability to communicate effectively in English
- physical ability to lift over 25 pounds
- ability to distinguish between numbers and symbols
- hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- corrected vision and hearing
- able to sit or walk for extended periods
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- completion and passing of basic arrhythmia class and test
- CPR certification
- knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart
- ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
- proficiency in cognitive and psychomotor skills
- ability to work cooperatively with healthcare team
- exercise good time management
- prior knowledge of basic arrhythmia desirable
Job Duties
- Monitors EKG rhythm patterns of patients to detect abnormalities
- reviews patient information to determine rhythm patterns and prior variations
- measures intervals accurately and interprets basic arrhythmias
- sets up central station and ensures alarms are correctly set and functioning
- responds promptly to alarms and assigns qualified substitutes during breaks
- reports life-threatening dysrhythmias immediately to charge nurse
- documents patient status and rhythm strips daily and as needed
- admits, transfers, and discharges patients from computer system
- initiates leads on patients with remote monitoring
- notifies charge nurse when discontinuation of monitoring is appropriate
- performs disinfecting procedures and follows infection control protocols
- reports changes in pulse oximetry data to licensed personnel
- maintains telemetry monitoring equipment and inventory logs
- educates and collaborates with patient care team to ensure clear signals
- troubleshoots monitor problems, including lead placement and equipment issues
- orients new staff to work area
- assists with peer evaluations when requested
- performs additional related tasks and responsibilities as necessary
