Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or related field
  • One or more years of experience in tax, legal, customs or import/export trade
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience utilizing RIA, BNA, Lexis Nexis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills including building models and data analysis
  • Solid organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and work independently or within a team
  • Capability to work in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to manage and delegate work to a team
  • Capacity to build and maintain professional relationships
  • Basic understanding of taxation and legal issues in customs and trade

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or other related field
  • Juris Doctorate degree, LLM, and/or MBA preferred
  • One or more years of experience in tax, legal, customs or import/export trade
  • Experience as a customs attorney, customs broker, industry trade specialist, US Customs auditor or import specialist preferred
  • CPA and/or JD preferred
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience utilizing RIA, BNA, Lexis Nexis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to build models and analyze financial and numerical data
  • Solid organizational skills with focus on meeting project deadlines
  • Ability to multitask effectively both independently and within group environments
  • Capable of working in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to manage a team and delegate work assignments
  • Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with client personnel
  • Ability to interact successfully with professionals at all levels
  • Basic understanding of taxation and legal issues related to customs and international trade

Job Duties

  • Researches and assists in writing and reviewing international trade advice in areas relating to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, customs federal regulations, NAFTA, entry processes and customs valuation
  • Researches U.S. and international import and export trade matters
  • Formulates ideas and delivers possible trade savings opportunities
  • Works with other firm specialists and client service teams on client and proposal work
  • Collaborates on organizing and conducting effective internal CPE training sessions in the area of specialization
  • Establishes relationships with BDO customs experts in jurisdictions throughout BDO International
  • Identifies opportunities for and assists in drafting tax alerts in international customs and global trade tax matters
  • Assists in managing client expectations
  • Acts as mentor to interns as appropriate
  • Performs other duties as required
