Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a sushi chef or similar role in a professional kitchen
  • Valid food handler’s certification
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Commitment to maintaining high hygiene and cleanliness standards

Job Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a culinary environment, preferably within fine dining or Japanese cuisine settings
  • Strong knowledge of food safety practices and proper food handling procedures
  • Demonstrated expertise in menu planning and meal preparation specific to sushi and Japanese dishes
  • Excellent knife skills with the ability to prepare ingredients efficiently and precisely
  • Experience working in a restaurant or food service environment with a focus on quality presentation
  • Familiarity with dietary aide responsibilities such as accommodating dietary restrictions or special requests
  • Ability to work quickly under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
  • Prior experience in catering or serving high-end clientele is a plus

Job Duties

  • Prepare and assemble a variety of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese delicacies with precision and artistry
  • Plan menus that balance creativity with authentic flavors, catering to diverse dietary preferences
  • Maintain impeccable food handling and safety standards in accordance with health regulations
  • Use advanced knife skills to cut fish, vegetables, and other ingredients efficiently and safely
  • Ensure all food preparation aligns with restaurant standards for quality, presentation, and freshness
  • Assist in kitchen operations including food prep, cooking, and plating for service
  • Support catering events by preparing sushi platters and ensuring timely delivery to clients
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi station and storage areas
