Job Duties
- Supports the surgeon and/or qualified first assistant during procedures by performing tasks such as sponging, suctioning, cutting sutures, holding retractors, and manipulating the endoscopic camera
- Monitors conditions in the operating room, assesses needs of the patient and surgical team, and obtains additional instruments, supplies, and equipment as necessary
- Supervises other healthcare team members in the surgical environment, providing orientation, training, and education to new personnel
- Promotes a safe environment, takes appropriate action in emergency situations, and ensures adherence to regulatory standards and policies
- Gathers, checks, and opens supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures, ensuring all items are functional and readily available
- Maintains strict aseptic technique, performs surgical hand scrub, dons gown and gloves, and sets up sterile field and drapes for procedures
- Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization, performing point-of-use cleaning throughout procedures
