Job Description
This listing is for the position of Station Chief at a fire station responsible for overseeing and directing the daily operations of two or more firefighting crews. The crews operate firefighting vehicles, combat airfield and structural fires, conduct crash and rescue operations, and help reduce or eliminate potential fire hazards. The role is integral to maintaining safety standards and emergency readiness at the fire station.

Job Requirements
- Meet specialized experience requirements described by OPM for GS-0081 series
- Certified by DoD Firefighter Certification System as Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Airport Firefighter, and HAZMAT Incident Commander
- Meet federal time-in-grade requirements for GS-09 level
- Able to perform strenuous physical activities and pass pre-employment physical
- Willingness to work in hazardous and physically demanding environments
- Ability to wear heavy protective clothing and climb ladders
- Provide proof of certifications with application
Job Qualifications
- One year specialized experience equivalent to GS-08 level
- Certification as Fire Officer II
- Certification as Fire Instructor I
- Certification as Fire Inspector I
- Certification as Airport Firefighter including Firefighter I and II
- Certification as HAZMAT Incident Commander including awareness and operations
- Knowledge of firefighting vehicles operation and hydraulic principles
- Knowledge of emergency first aid and HAZMAT response
- Skill in identifying fire hazards and operating communication equipment
- Ability to supervise and lead crews in emergency conditions
Job Duties
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the fire station
- Supervise firefighting crews conducting fire suppression and rescue operations
- Operate and direct use of firefighting vehicles and equipment
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and emergency protocols
- Conduct training in fire protection, prevention, and emergency response
- Manage hazardous materials incidents and coordinate HAZMAT response
- Maintain fire communication systems and emergency reporting
