Job Requirements

  • Meet all qualification requirements including education if applicable
  • Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 level
  • Meet time-in-grade requirements by specified date
  • Successfully pass background investigation including polygraph examination
  • Be medically and physically capable of performing essential job functions
  • Pass pre-employment fitness test
  • Meet U.S. residency requirements or qualify for waiver
  • Disclose political appointee status if applicable
  • Meet special retirement coverage conditions if required

Job Qualifications

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level
  • Experience managing or directing inspection and enforcement operations at U.S. ports of entry
  • Knowledge of federal laws and regulations affecting border security and customs enforcement
  • Proven ability to lead and supervise law enforcement personnel
  • Experience coordinating with multiple agencies and stakeholders
  • Strong management skills related to program resources and internal control compliance
  • Familiarity with law enforcement investigations and intelligence functions

Job Duties

  • Manage and direct inspection and enforcement operations at U.S. ports of entry including air, land, and sea
  • Interpret and apply complex federal laws and regulations affecting admissibility of travelers, cargo, and conveyances
  • Lead and supervise law enforcement personnel by assigning work, evaluating performance, resolving conduct or union issues, and providing training
  • Coordinate with multiple agencies, carriers, and stakeholders to address operational issues, security incidents, and trade or travel facilitation
  • Manage program resources such as overtime, facilities, fleet, and construction projects while ensuring compliance with internal controls to prevent fraud, waste, or misuse
  • Oversee investigations and intelligence functions related to border security
  • Ensure adherence to agency policies and federal regulations in all operational activities
