Job Requirements

  • Meet all qualification requirements including education if applicable
  • have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level
  • meet all applicable time in grade requirements by 11/20/2025
  • successfully complete a medical screening and physical fitness test
  • meet residency requirements of having physically resided in the U.S. or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years or qualify for a residency waiver
  • disclose prior political appointee employment if applicable
  • willing to undergo thorough background investigation and polygraph examination
  • comply with mandatory retirement provisions if applicable

Job Qualifications

  • Experience managing or directing inspection and enforcement operations at a U.S. port of entry
  • experience interpreting and applying federal laws and regulations related to customs and border protection
  • leadership and supervisory experience in a law enforcement or related setting
  • ability to coordinate with multiple agencies and stakeholders
  • knowledge of program resource management and compliance
  • strong communication and decision-making skills
  • ability to pass background, polygraph, and fitness tests required for the role

Job Duties

  • Manage and direct inspection and enforcement operations at a U.S. port of entry
  • interpret and apply complex federal laws and regulations affecting admissibility of travelers, cargo, and conveyances
  • lead and supervise law enforcement personnel including assigning work, evaluating performance, and providing training
  • coordinate with multiple agencies, carriers, or stakeholders to address operational issues, security incidents, or trade/travel facilitation
  • manage program resources such as overtime, facilities, fleet, or construction projects
  • ensure compliance with internal controls to prevent fraud, waste, or misuse
