Job Requirements

  • must possess an FAA Airplane Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Airplane Multi-Engine Land ratings or an FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Airplane Multi-Engine Land rating
  • must have a current FAA Certified Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent with Multi-Engine and Instrument Airplane Instruction ratings
  • must possess a current FAA first or second-class medical certificate
  • meet GS-13 flight hour minimums and provide certified documentation of flight hours
  • prior wildland firefighting experience required
  • must submit all required documents and qualifications by announcement closing date
  • no educational requirements
  • secondary firefighter retirement coverage applies
  • no age limit for entry
  • employment type classified as 'Other'

Job Qualifications

  • possess an FAA Airplane Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Airplane Multi-Engine Land ratings or a current FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Airplane Multi-Engine Land rating
  • hold a current FAA Certified Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent with Multi-Engine and Instrument Airplane Instruction ratings
  • possess a current FAA first or second-class medical certificate
  • meet GS-13 flight hour requirements including 1500 total flight hours, 250 hours as Pilot-In-Command, 500 hours in multi-engine airplanes, 75 hours night flight, and 75 hours actual or simulated instrument flight with 10 hours in flight
  • have prior wildland firefighting experience
  • able to provide documentation supporting all flight time and certifications

Job Duties

  • operate multi-engine airplanes in support of wildland firefighting and natural resource missions
  • conduct instrument and multi-engine flight instruction as required
  • maintain compliance with FAA regulations and company safety standards
  • perform night flying and instrument flight operations
  • document and verify flight hours and certifications
  • assist with aerial fire suppression and emergency response activities
  • participate in ongoing training and qualification assessments
