Job Requirements

  • meet eligibility and qualifications requirements by closing date
  • attach current FAA Certified Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent
  • possess current FAA first or second-class medical certificate
  • provide complete and legible documentation of flight hours
  • experience includes paid and unpaid including volunteer work
  • meet firefighter retirement coverage provisions
  • provide updated documents by announcement date
  • no educational requirements

Job Qualifications

  • possess an FAA Airplane Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine Land ratings or FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate
  • hold a current FAA Certified Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent with Multi-Engine and Instrument Airplane Instruction ratings
  • minimum of 1500 flight hours with 250 hours as Pilot-In-Command
  • at least 500 flight hours in multi-engine airplanes
  • 75 hours of night flight experience
  • 75 hours of actual or simulated Instrument time with 10 hours in flight
  • 100 hours of flight time in the preceding 12 months
  • prior wildland firefighting experience

Job Duties

  • operate multi-engine airplanes in support of forest service missions
  • conduct aerial firefighting and surveillance operations
  • perform aircraft pre-flight and post-flight inspections
  • maintain detailed flight logs and documentation
  • comply with all FAA and agency safety regulations
  • instruct and mentor other pilots as required
  • participate in emergency response and wildfire management activities
