Job Requirements

  • must possess faa airplane commercial pilot certificate with instrument and airplane multi-engine land ratings or faa airline transport pilot certificate with instrument and airplane multi-engine land ratings
  • must possess current faa certified flight instructor certificate or military equivalent as appropriate to the position held with multi-engine and instrument airplane instruction ratings
  • must possess a current faa first or second-class medical certificate
  • must meet minimum flight time requirements including 1500 hours total flight time with 250 hours as pilot-in-command, 500 hours in multi-engine airplanes, 75 hours night flight, 75 hours pilot-in-command instrument time, and 100 hours in category in the past 12 months
  • must provide complete and legible documentation of flight hours
  • must have prior wildland firefighting experience and meet all qualification requirements by the announcement closing date

Job Duties

  • pilot multi-engine airplanes in support of wildfire management
  • conduct flight operations including fire reconnaissance and resource transport
  • ensure compliance with FAA flight and medical certification requirements
  • maintain accurate documentation of flight hours and certifications
  • conduct night and instrument flight operations
  • assist in aerial firefighting support missions
  • communicate effectively with ground firefighting and command teams
