Job Requirements

  • National Guard membership required
  • Excepted service position with compatible military assignment required prior to placement
  • Must wear military uniform
  • Concurrence with employment conditions required
  • Eligible for immediate National Guard membership if not currently a member
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service
  • Background investigation clearance required
  • May complete trial period
  • Mandatory direct deposit participation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance
  • Compliance with Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment restrictions
  • Ability to maintain effective professional relationships
  • May work irregular or overtime hours

  • Able to manage a workforce and aviation operations under manning and budget constraints

Job Qualifications

  • Military grades O-3 through O-5
  • Competent understanding of aviation principles and concepts
  • Minimum one year experience at grade or military rank immediately below next higher level
  • Three years experience in civilian or military aviation programs
  • Experience piloting and instructing fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft
  • Skilled in mission planning, flight operations, aircraft inspections, and crew training
  • Knowledgeable in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, and mission tactics
  • Experience managing aviation safety and quality control programs
  • Ability to develop plans, monitor operations, and brief commanders
  • Undergraduate degree from accredited institution
  • FAA or military aviation certifications
  • Proof of education documentation

Job Duties

  • Function as commander of an AASF, WAATS, or EAATS
  • Supervise 3 to 12 General Schedule employees and over 30 wage grade workers
  • Manage and direct aviation training, flight operations, and maintenance activities
  • Oversee aviation safety programs and ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Plan work schedules and assign tasks to subordinate units
  • Evaluate supervisor and employee performance
  • Collaborate with other units and advise higher officials on operational impacts
  • Oversee training operations of aircrew members and standardize flight instruction methods
  • Manage aviation maintenance through subordinate supervisors
  • Formulate and execute safety and emergency plans
  • Participate in aviation and safety policy boards and committees
