Job Requirements

  • Able to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance
  • Willing to work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Completion of pre-employment Class IV Aviation Physical Examination and annual exams
  • Ability to meet and maintain physical fitness/medical qualification standards according to AR 40-501 and AR 40-8
  • Possess or obtain required ATCS, AVO, and CTO certifications
  • Must meet age and retirement provisions under Special Retirement Coverage
  • Subject to drug screening including pre-employment and random tests
  • Able to complete one year probation if not previously met
  • Supervisory experience as defined by OPM Guide
  • Provide proof of U.S. citizenship
  • Male applicants born after Dec 31, 1959 must complete Selective Service registration

Job Qualifications

  • US citizen
  • One year of specialized experience in air traffic control under FAA regulations
  • Graduate of a DoD component or FAA approved formal Air Traffic Controller school
  • Possess ATCS, AVO, and CTO certifications
  • Ability to coordinate air traffic operations and supervise personnel
  • Ability to meet specialized experience at GS-10 level
  • Willingness to complete one year probationary period if applicable

Job Duties

  • Initiates deviations to regulations and directives if deemed necessary in the interest of aviation safety
  • Assures that any additional training needed is given to personnel assigned, makes checks on progress and gives assistance when problems are encountered in attaining required level of proficiency
  • Controls the arriving and departing aircraft operating under VFR (Visual Flight Rules) and IFR by means of two-way radio communications
  • Records pertinent data on the approach control flight strips to aid in determining clearances and instructions
  • Controls aircraft conducting parachute operations, close air support missions utilizing live ordnance and airmobile troop operations, while simultaneously ground units are conducting artillery live-fire exercises
