Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • high school diploma or GED or culinary school graduate
  • 36 months experience in food services including 12 months supervisory experience
  • ability to use kitchen tools and equipment proficiently
  • skilled in safe and sanitary food handling
  • basic math skills
  • effective communication skills in English
  • willingness to submit to background and police records check
  • physical ability to lift up to 58 lbs and push/pull up to 100 lbs
  • ability to stand and walk for long periods
  • ability to work nights, weekends, and emergency closings
  • perseverance for fast-paced kitchen environment
  • willingness to maintain uniform
  • availability to assist during special events
  • ServSafe and Sanitation Certification may be required

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or graduate of culinary school
  • 36 months experience in food services including 12 months in a supervisory role
  • proficiency in using kitchen tools and small equipment
  • skilled in safe, sanitary, and effective handling of food and utensils
  • competent in basic math for inventory and portion control
  • ability to read and interpret menus and instructions
  • effective English communication skills orally and in writing
  • knowledge of nutrition and portion control
  • understanding of Housing and Food Services core values
  • ServSafe Certification preferred

Job Duties

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned personnel
  • determine work priorities and plan schedules
  • assign and review work
  • prepare food following recipes and portion control standards
  • utilize kitchen utensils and industrial equipment safely and efficiently
  • serve food courteously with proper portion control
  • transport food items safely and efficiently
  • maintain cleanliness by washing and sanitizing kitchen tools, equipment, and work areas
  • assist with special university events and catering
  • provide support to other food services staff as needed
