Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • supervisory experience may be full-time or its part-time equivalent and may be acquired concurrently with or separately from experience in the maintenance and operation of a public market, large wholesale, or retail food outlet
  • new york state driver’s license at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment
  • city residency will be required within one year of hire

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • master’s degree plus one year of full-time experience in the maintenance and operation of a public market, large wholesale, or retail food outlet and one year of supervisory experience
  • bachelor’s degree plus three years of full-time experience in the maintenance and operation of a public market, large wholesale, or retail food outlet and one year of supervisory experience
  • associate’s degree plus five years of full-time experience in the maintenance and operation of a public market, large wholesale, or retail food outlet and one year of supervisory experience
  • seven years of experience in the maintenance and operation of a public market, large wholesale, or retail food outlet and one year of supervisory experience

Job Duties

  • prepares license agreements for rental of space and oversees invoicing and payment of fees
  • supervises the conduct of market business, acting as arbiter in buyer-seller disputes
  • enforces public market rules, regulations, and procedures
  • plans special events and promotions
  • interacts with a variety of organizations, partners, and individuals in planning for events and usage of the public market and international plaza
  • enters data pertaining to stall licenses, utilization, and fees into management software
  • assigns and coordinates the work of maintenance, administrative, and contracted security staff
  • assists the director of public markets in preparing and administrating the operating and capital budgets of the sites
  • works with diverse populations in the local community
  • oversees marketing and social media for the public market and international plaza
  • collects fees for rental and use of space
  • deposits monies in the public market bank account
