Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years transportation experience including customer service
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Dispatcher or controller supervisory experience preferred
  • Must manage simultaneous responsibilities in a diverse and demanding work environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and basic Word
  • Ability to learn mapping software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Knowledge of City of Philadelphia’s streets, traffic patterns, and major landmarks in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties
  • Must have acceptable attendance and safety record as measured by established criteria
  • Must be available to work day shifts, night shifts, weekends, and holidays as required

Job Duties

  • Supervises and directs Control Center Dispatchers monitoring and controlling paratransit service operations
  • Directs and instructs Control Center and field supervisory personnel during emergencies or special events to minimize the impacts of incidents or accidents on paratransit operations
  • Coordinates response activities during emergencies and service disruptions
  • Oversees or directs deployment of SEPTA and third-party carrier personnel in investigating and following up on accidents or incidents involving paratransit carriers
  • Manages problem resolution of service delivery, patron and billing issues between SEPTA and third-party contractors
  • Controls and directs movement of all revenue Paratransit vehicles and support vehicles using CARD System, Zello, and RideCo to optimize operations and troubleshoot disruptions
  • Oversees ongoing communications with field and third-party personnel to ensure efficient transmission, processing, and feedback regarding service
  • Coordinates with outside agencies involved in sponsorship of paratransit services to ensure compliance
  • Coordinates communication with management, emergency personnel, patrons, and carriers about service delays, accidents, incidents, and major deviations from normal service
  • Follows up on complaints concerning carriers and patrons
  • Identifies customer service complaint patterns and implements programs to improve satisfaction
  • Prepares weekly manpower work schedules to accommodate 24/7 operations and adjusts for vacations or emergency absences
  • Oversees delivery of service by third-party carriers including service adjustments and extra tours
  • Performs periodic audits of dispatcher performance to improve safety, efficiency, and customer service
  • Conducts training and retraining for Control Center and field personnel on policies, procedures, and dispatching techniques
  • Monitors performance and attendance of supervisory employees and administers disciplinary measures as necessary
  • Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures and promotes safety among staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned
