Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of experience as an ambulance dispatcher or emergency medical dispatcher
  • Ability to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Valid radio operator certification or ability to obtain
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with data entry and report preparation software
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening

  • Experience supervising ambulance dispatchers or emergency medical dispatch personnel
  • Knowledge of ambulance and EMS operations and protocols
  • Ability to operate radio communication equipment
  • Proficient in data entry and report preparation

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work under stress and manage emergency situations

Job Duties

  • Supervises ambulance dispatchers and related personnel involved in arranging emergency and scheduled patient transportation
  • Prepares daily work schedules for ambulance dispatchers
  • Recommends purchase and modification of equipment and orders supplies
  • Operates radio equipment to maintain communication with ambulance and EMS personnel
  • Performs and corrects data entry, prepares various reports, and utilizes computer equipment
  • Maintains records of patient transportation requests
  • Participates as a member of the Departmental Operations Center during major emergencies or disasters
  • Performs ambulance dispatcher duties on an emergency relief basis
