Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior food service experience
  • sensitivity to diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, religious, and sexual orientation backgrounds
  • ability to stand and circulate for extended periods
  • ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively
  • ability to bend, twist, run, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs
  • ability to follow oral and written directions
  • possess or obtain Serve-Safe certificate within six months
  • cash handling ability
  • satisfactory score on food service examination

  • knowledge of operation of electronic cash register and computer terminal
  • knowledge of Taft College meal plan
  • ability to account for money and balance cash register
  • ability to prepare food following supervisor instructions
  • ability to understand and administer meal plan
  • ability to perform routine repetitive work
  • ability to serve the public and students with poise and tact

Job Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of food for service
  • assure that food is ready for service on time
  • follow proper sanitary and safety standards for food preparation
  • help serve meals
  • fill ice and juice dispensers
  • stock snack bar and Pepsi machine
  • clean assigned work area
  • wash cooking utensils effectively and quickly
  • empty trash containers and sanitize if necessary
  • assist in cleaning floors in the cafeteria serving area
  • clean kitchen equipment
  • open and lock cafeteria doors and secure the facility depending on shift assignment
  • operate cash register and computer terminal to receive cash and record sales
  • close out and balance cash after shift
  • prepare or assist in preparing general reports
  • record meal plan usage
  • set up and replenish salad bar as needed
  • store leftover items and clean up the area
  • dispense, store, and rotate supplies in the serving area
  • transport food following proper sanitary and safety standards
  • perform related duties as assigned
