Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid County Board of Health Food Service Worker’s Permit
- Satisfactory criminal background check
- Meet the definition of qualifications per WV Code
- Demonstrated competency per WV State approved test
- Ability to perform moderate physical effort including standing continuously
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move at least 50 pounds
- Ability to comply with safety rules and use personal protective equipment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work a minimum of 200 days annually
- Ability to work under minimal supervision
- Willingness to attend in-service training
- Ability to interact with students, staff, and public
- Physical ability to perform kitchen tasks and operate commercial equipment
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Holds current County Board of Health Food Service Worker’s Permit
- Demonstrated competency as required by WV Code
- Ability to set and maintain a work pace for timely meal production and cleanup
- Ability to present information and answer questions from administrators, students, staff, and the public
- Ability to apply basic math concepts to food service tasks
- Ability to interface effectively with other departments and personnel
- Ability to locate and comply with ingredient requirements
- Ability to organize and plan kitchen equipment layout
- Ability to perform work requiring significant standing
- Ability to read labels and safety warnings
- Cafeteria managers should have a background in institutional or commercial food service
Job Duties
- Maintains regular attendance
- Reviews weekly menus for planning food preparation schedule
- Operates commercial food service equipment
- Prepares menus for daily service
- Maintains temperature readings
- Assembles, measures, and mixes ingredients of food items
- Follows written, verbal and other directions
- Acts as Cafeteria Manager when necessary by assigning duties and inspecting food
- Supervises or participates in cleaning, maintenance and security of kitchen and storage areas
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area
- Complies with KCS policies
- Arranges food to be served daily
- Maintains accurate records including receipts and inventories
- Cleans equipment used in meal preparation and serving
- Receives, inspects, orders and stores food supplies
- Inputs data in computer when applicable
- Oversees kitchen operation as Cafeteria Manager
- Cooperates with school programs and outside organizations for special event catering
- Prepares special dietary items for identified students
- Trains substitute cooks
- Maintains and operates kitchen equipment and utensils
- Ensures food safety and preparation environment
- Addresses feeding crises effectively
- Maintains accurate food temperature and audit records
- Attends in-services and workshops
- Follows safety rules and use of personal protective equipment
- Maintains confidentiality
- Continuously improves processes
