Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Motor Vehicles Inspection License for West Virginia
  • Air brake certification
  • One year of verifiable diesel mechanic experience or 1080 hours of vocational training
  • Ability to use trade tools such as engine diagnosis equipment, tire changers, and wheel balancers
  • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to prioritize assignments
  • Ability to work with vendors, drivers, principals, and parents
  • Ability to project a positive image of maintenance operations
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing work practices
  • Ability to work under employee contract agreement
  • Ability to follow WV School Transportation Regulations
  • Ability to work cooperatively with fellow employees

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Motor Vehicles Inspection License for West Virginia
  • Air brake certification
  • One year of verifiable experience as a diesel mechanic or 1080 hours of diesel mechanic vocational training
  • Basic knowledge of body repair and painting techniques
  • Basic computer knowledge for order filling and materials management
  • Demonstrated competency via state-approved test
  • Ability to use trade tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and state inspectors
  • Leadership skills
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle performance issues

Job Duties

  • Maintains terminal facility in a safe workable order for efficient material flow
  • Reviews all outstanding work orders and assigns personnel to process them considering priority needs
  • Maintains accurate records related to bus repair and parts stock levels
  • Monitors employees starting time, break and lunch periods, and quitting time to ensure schedule compliance
  • Provides supervision and assistance in work areas to encourage production
  • Carries out special or emergency assignments as required
  • Monitors work areas for safety practice compliance and EPA regulation adherence
