Job Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License
  • Ability to drive automatic or manual transmissions
  • Must operate manual bus equipment without strain
  • Able to climb bus steps and evacuate quickly
  • Demonstrate minimum safe driving experience
  • Possess mechanical aptitude for minor repairs
  • Maintain emotional control and enforce discipline
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Provide proof of legal citizenship or residency
  • No vision or perception issues impacting safety

Job Qualifications

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License
  • Ability to drive both automatic and manual (stick shift) transmissions
  • Capability to use all manual bus equipment without strain
  • Ability to climb steps and move quickly during bus evacuations
  • Minimum safe driving experience as determined by the board
  • Mechanical aptitude for minor diagnostics and repairs
  • Emotional control and ability to maintain passenger discipline
  • Required criminal history background check
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
  • No visual or perceptual impairments interfering with safe bus operation

Job Duties

  • Conduct pre-trip safety inspections of the bus and complete School Bus Condition Reports
  • Notify transportation supervisor of mechanical malfunctions or safety hazards
  • Adhere to established routes, bus stops, and time schedules
  • Transport only authorized pupils
  • Obey all traffic laws and school bus safety regulations
  • Maintain discipline on the bus and report violations to appropriate authorities
  • Report all accidents and pupil injuries immediately and complete required reports
  • Participate in emergency evacuation drills and instruct passengers on safety regulations
  • Perform daily interior cleaning, clean windows and exterior as needed, and refuel the vehicle
  • Perform light maintenance tasks such as checking and replacing water, antifreeze, oil and battery water, adding air to tires, and replacing bulbs
  • Inspect the bus after each route to ensure no students are left behind
