Job Requirements

  • enrolled at least half-time with 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduates and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates
  • maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students
  • meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy
  • position requires on-campus face-to-face interactions
  • maintain a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace
  • work schedules will be created based on departmental needs and should not conflict with class schedules
  • promptly complete all required trainings
  • submit time sheets biweekly
  • availability to work some evenings and weekends

Job Qualifications

  • knowledge in the fitness field
  • personal trainer certification or pursuing certification
  • enrolled at least half-time in a degree program
  • maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students
  • maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students
  • meet satisfactory academic progress policy requirements
  • possess good communication and customer service skills
  • ability to work well in a team environment
  • willingness to learn and adhere to safety protocols

Job Duties

  • assist with the daily operations of the rec center including weight room and functional room and game room under supervision of student manager and professional staff
  • assist front desk personnel with marketing and sale of memberships and equipment promoting a healthy lifestyle
  • implement university policies and KWRC guidelines to ensure a safe and positive environment
  • assist with member verification to facilitate proper access
  • follow proper protocol for opening and closing procedures of the facility and equipment setup
  • provide inventory control support for intramural program equipment with check out procedures
  • mentor new student employees ensuring communication of guidelines
  • assist professional staff with outreach programs for school tours aligning with recruitment efforts
  • participate in departmental meetings and assist with setup for activities
  • provide information and recommendations on fitness classes
  • maintain cleanliness and proper maintenance of facility equipment
  • orient members on facility and equipment use and strength conditioning guidance
  • implement emergency protocols including CPR, evacuation, and severe weather procedures
  • provide excellent customer service to enhance member experience
  • perform physical tasks including moving and lifting heavy objects
