Job Requirements

  • meet specialized experience or education requirements for GS-9 to GS-12 levels
  • able to lift, carry, and handle products up to 40 pounds
  • able to stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and climb for prolonged periods
  • meet federal time-in-grade requirements
  • submit proof of qualifications including transcripts if relying on education
  • attest to physical ability
  • meet time after competitive appointment requirements
  • respond to competency questions related to commissary operations, interpersonal skills, supervision
  • applicant must have federal service experience equivalent to the grade applying for

Job Qualifications

  • specialized experience in retail food store management equivalent to respective GS grade level
  • knowledge of retail procurement and distribution methods
  • understanding of principles and techniques of food merchandising
  • ability to develop and apply retail store policies
  • experience in staff supervision and customer service
  • educational background in business administration, public administration, agricultural economics, or related fields is advantageous

Job Duties

  • Plan and direct day-to-day retail operations of the commissary
  • coordinate and control inventory procurement and distribution
  • manage retail food merchandising and store management practices
  • develop, interpret, and apply policies and operating standards
  • provide technical advice on merchandising and operational matters
  • supervise commissary staff and front-end operations
  • ensure compliance with federal regulations and safety standards
