Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • certification in sterile processing and distribution
  • clear background check
  • proof of up-to-date immunizations
  • maintain minimum of 10 CEUs per year as required by NYS law
  • entry level or 1-3 years experience preferred
  • commitment to achieve CBSPD or IAHCSMM certification within 18 months
  • strong attention to detail
  • good judgment and critical-thinking skills
  • manual dexterity
  • technical knowledge of sterilization techniques
  • ability to work independently and in a team
  • good communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • strong knowledge of English language including reading, speaking, writing and interpreting instructions
  • ability to operate and troubleshoot sterilization equipment

  • manual dexterity and the ability to handle fragile medical instruments
  • technical skills related to sterilization processes

Job Duties

  • Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely
  • prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to sterilization standards
  • maintains appropriate records and monitors quality and infection control standards
  • handles and cares for instruments including cleaning, lubrication, and assembly
  • retrieves malfunctioning instruments and coordinates repairs
  • correctly peel-packs and wraps instruments for sterilization
  • coordinates with Materials Department to maintain stock levels
  • ensures safe care and adheres to FSC policies and procedures
  • promotes professional growth through continuing education and skills competency
  • communicates effectively with operating room staff
  • reports damaged or malfunctioning equipment
  • acts as a resource to nursing staff regarding sterilization techniques
  • cleans, sets up, sterilizes, and distributes instruments per schedule
  • maintains records for quality assurance and sterilization
  • complies with regulatory requirements including Joint Commission Standards
  • enforces Environment of Care protocols
  • adheres to Standard Precautions such as use of gloves, masks, and hand washing
  • handles and disposes of infectious waste appropriately
