Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident or protected individual or eligibility to obtain required authorizations from U.S. Department of State
  • Access to export-controlled information required
  • Master’s degree in business, economics, international studies, or related field
  • Minimum four years' experience in trade or export business
  • Experience with export controls policy and regulatory landscape
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to comply with firm policies and uphold DLA Piper’s culture and values

Job Qualifications

  • Master's degree in business, economics, international studies, or related field
  • Minimum four years' experience in a trade or export business environment
  • Experience in transactional due diligence analysis, including using and interpreting results of screening software and ownership research tools
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. export classification for military and dual-use items
  • Familiarity with export controls licensing portals SNAP-R and DECCS
  • Experience with Harmonized System classification and CBP entry requirements
  • Preferred language skills, especially Mandarin

Job Duties

  • Set up and manage client's export control licensing portals with the Departments of Commerce and State
  • Conduct third party export control and sanctions screening due diligence for attorney review
  • Assist clients to maintain their registrations with the State Department as exporter, manufacturer, or broker of defense articles
  • Draft documents, letters, and summaries for attorney review
  • Perform product classification analysis and assist in preparing draft classification ruling requests, protests, and prior disclosures
  • Conduct research and write memos on global trade issues for attorneys in the practice group
  • File documents with government agencies and courts
