Job Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen or national of the US, an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the US for this employer
  • Permanent employment status
  • Ability to report to Worldport in Louisville, KY
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Proficiency in using regulatory resources and classification tools
  • Experience or education related to international trade compliance
  • Legal authorization to work in the US

Job Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of US Customs and Border Protection regulations
  • Bachelor’s degree or internationally comparable degree preferred
  • Experience in international trade, logistics, or freight forwarding preferred
  • Previous experience with classification and/or Free Trade Agreement determination preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in database management tools such as Excel and Access
  • Effective communication skills

Job Duties

  • Substantiate classification decisions using General Rules of Interpretation, Explanatory Notes, BOSS, HTSUS, ISPS, and other resources
  • Engage in country of origin verification projects by contacting suppliers to obtain correct country of origin for customers' products
  • Manage and organize product databases and classification information in Excel and Access
  • Enter product classifications and substantiation into proprietary operating system
  • Communicate proactively with customers including educating customers on regulatory procedures
  • Support data entry tasks
  • Collect supplementary information or documentation from customers, customs, and other relevant entities
  • Identify customer profile discrepancies
  • Answer standard questions and requests from customers, customs, and other offices
  • Work as a team member with clients, UPS employees, carriers, inbound agents, and others
  • Assist with processing shipments being physically inspected by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents
