Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum 4 years experience in catering sales or related hospitality field
- Strong understanding of hospitality and food and beverage industry fundamentals
- Proficiency with computer software including spreadsheets and word processing
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
- Professional appearance and good personal hygiene
- Ability to travel for outside sales visits and networking events
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) preferred
- 4-6 years experience in catering sales
- General understanding of the hospitality and food and beverage industry
- Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and planning skills
- Strong hospitality orientation
- Maintains good hygiene and neat professional appearance
- Knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software, ability to learn new programs
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff including management
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays in addition to normal business hours
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Independent self-starter thriving in fast-paced environments
- Interest in environmental causes and sustainability a plus
Job Duties
- Responsible for planning, coordinating, detailing and servicing special events such as conventions, corporate functions, meetings and galas at McCormick Place
- Generate revenue and provide excellent personal service to internal and external guests mainly focusing on Show Management as clients
- Coordinates and leads sales and booking process to align with Show Management and exhibitor schedule
- Seeks opportunities for additional sales and events based on show schedule and traffic flow not exclusive of catered events
- Customize creative menu and event solutions to meet client needs
- Understand financial aspects when creating and customizing menus and meeting packages
- Develop and maintain communication with OVG Hospitality operations
- Conduct site inspections as needed
- Assist OVG sales team with booking new and repeat business by attending outside sales visits, networking events, trade shows and travel
- Develop and enhance existing programs with new and innovative culinary ideas
- Negotiate, influence, and sell to all clients
- Create requests for cash concession outlets when needed
- Generate catering contracts and establish payment arrangements
- Provide detailed event analysis to support company goals and guest satisfaction
- Continuously interact with clients during shows
- Ensure successful client events by partnering with hospitality operations to meet food standards, room setup and on-time service
- Resolve client concerns quickly and professionally
- Update and maintain file information for repeat events and total food and beverage revenues
- Practice continuous efforts toward menu upgrades and increased services
- Perform other projects as assigned by Director of Catering Sales
