Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in physical education, sports management, recreation or a related field preferred
- experience in youth sports program development and administration
- strong leadership and team management skills
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to sports programs
- ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups
- experience with budgeting and program evaluation
- ability to develop and implement marketing and outreach strategies
- commitment to the mission and values of the Y
- proficiency in scheduling and organizing sports activities and events
Job Duties
- Provides direct leadership to the branch sports programs, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives
- compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in the program
- securing, scheduling, and maintaining the needed fields and facilities
- creating and scheduling the activities or events
- and maintaining and/or updating and transporting program equipment for games and practices
- works with the Associate Executive Director to establish new program activities and expand programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating objectives
- assists in the marketing and distribution of program information
- creates teams
- develops and distributes team practice and game schedules
- trains and schedules sports officials and coaches
- develops and distributes rules, guidelines, and handbooks
- purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards
- assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate
- ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed
- recruits, trains, and supervises diverse staff and volunteers needed to deliver programs
- models relationship-building skills in all interactions
- develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff, parents and caregivers, and community organizations to maximize program impact and drive overall outcomes
- maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility
- organizes or participates in Y activities, such as the Y’s Sports Quality Team, staff meetings, special events, and fundraising campaigns
- perform other duties as assigned
