Job Requirements

  • Ability to understand written and verbal food preparation and safety instructions
  • At least 4.5 months experience as a Food Service Specialist
  • Completion of Food Service Lead Specialist Checklist
  • Minimum 80 percent score on Food Service Lead Specialist Assessment
  • Maintain valid Food Handler Certification and renew every two years
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills
  • Ability to understand safe work procedures and kitchen cleaning
  • Competency in computer use including logging in, emailing, printing
  • Ability to operate POS on all lines and complete paperwork
  • Ability to teach methods and skills to others
  • Good communication skills
  • Must complete annual continuing education
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Regular attendance
  • Ability to lift and carry moderate weight
  • Willingness to travel within the district to work as needed

Job Duties

  • Prepare food independently or in a group with professional quality and speed
  • Lead food preparation through following recipes and practicing sound cooking methods
  • Accurately record and calculate information on production records
  • Serve on the serving line in compliance with USDA Child Nutrition Regulations
  • Serve food according to meal schedules, departmental policies, and promote portion control and proper use of leftovers
  • Replenish and expedite the serving line
  • Practice and promote time and motion saving techniques, proper food cost economy, storage, and portion control
  • Practice expert sanitation and HACCP principles, record temperature logs, calibrate thermometers, and ensure sanitation compliance
  • Operate dish machine and sanitize dish room area
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and areas, perform preventative maintenance
  • Restock and rotate stock in food and non-food storage areas, assist with inventory
  • Rotate on all service and clean-up duties, including sweeping and mopping
  • Operate POS on all cafeteria lines accurately and comply with Child Nutrition Regulations
  • Open and close meal sessions, count money, prepare deposits, and complete reports
  • Record accurate production records electronically, enter orders, and assist with inventory
  • Demonstrate exemplary safety procedures and promote safety awareness
  • Assist in teaching and training Food Service Specialists and substitutes
  • Store and handle food items safely, maintain organized storage areas
  • Operate tools and equipment according to safety standards
  • Keep garbage collection areas sanitary
  • Correct unsafe conditions and report issues promptly
  • Maintain daily food preparation records
  • Promote teamwork and interaction with staff
  • Complete continuing education annually
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Implement innovative sustainable kitchen operations including waste reduction, recycling, compost, and energy/water conservation
  • Provide exceptional customer service promoting a culture of respect
