The Special Operations Team serves a critical role within the Fire Service of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, providing exceptional operational support that ensures the safety and efficiency of fire and emergency response activities. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- two years of experience as a DFS employee, firefighter, MA Hazardous Materials Technician, commercial driver, public safety communications, or in fire service leadership
- possession of a valid driver’s license

- ability to solve complex problems and make decisions
- able to respond to incidents 24 hours a day, 365 days a year when available
- ability to travel to assigned locations across the Commonwealth
- able to work all shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
- able to work as part of a team
- able to take direction and follow instructions
- able to accomplish assigned work with little or no supervision
- knowledge of ICS system
- knowledge of and ability to operate computers, radios, audio visual and telecommunications equipment
- certification in appropriate fields such as UAS Part 107 Drone Pilot, Commercial Driver’s License, Communications Unit Leader, Communications Unit Technician
Job Duties
- Drive large vehicles and trailers to emergency and planned events
- respond to emergency and planned events as part of the Special Operations Team
- operate complex equipment at emergency scenes and planned events, including communications equipment and radios, drones, computers, audio visual equipment, and off-road vehicles
- conduct maintenance, inspection, inventory, and repairs including vehicles, UTVs, trailers, drones, radios, and IT systems
- attend team training to enhance technician skills
- maintain a database including call logs, inventory, photos, videos, maps, and other data
- may be assigned role as a commercial driver if licensed
- may be assigned role as a drone pilot if certified
