Job Requirements

  • must be able to work under time constraints and within established deadlines
  • ability to lift, push, pull, reach, bend, twist, kneel and balance when performing job duties
  • work performed indoors in climate-controlled environment and outdoors
  • ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently
  • must undergo company standards for criminal background and professional reference checks
  • frequent sitting, standing, bending, walking, and reaching
  • good vision or corrected by glasses or contacts
  • able to work long hours between breaks during events
  • ability to analyze numerical, written, and verbal information
  • must be willing to get hands dirty and work in physically demanding conditions
  • team oriented with a can do attitude

Job Qualifications

  • bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • minimum three years experience in event planning, catering or hospitality service industry
  • strong clerical and accounting skills
  • working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • ability to multitask and manage projects
  • able to supervise contractors, staff, and vendors
  • TABC certification preferred
  • teamwork oriented with flexibility and understanding

Job Duties

  • support all aspects of MFAH's special events department related to event planning and execution
  • professionally plan, implement, and assist with a wide range of special events
  • oversee all contractors during event setup, service, and teardown
  • coordinate internal events logistics including ordering food and supplies, set-up, service, and clean up
  • respond to inquiries about external events at museum facilities
  • plan, execute, and invoice select external events from initial contact to post-event billing
  • schedule museum on call and contract staff for events as needed
  • prepare departmental forms and billing documentation for events
