Job Description

The City of Poulsbo's Parks and Recreation Department aims to be the heart of a healthy community through sustainable, safe, and diverse programs and open spaces. The department fosters an inclusive environment where residents and visitors alike feel motivated to live, play, learn, and thrive. Supported by a dedicated team of 6.75 full-time employees collaborating with over 100 instructors, recreation specialists, and facility attendants, the department provides extensive community programs and manages valuable recreational resources. Job Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience to perform duties
  • Possession of valid Washington State driver's license
  • Ability to maintain a safe driving record
  • Ability to pass a satisfactory background check
  • Ability to perform occasional evening and weekend work
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations within Kitsap County
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to navigate uneven outdoor terrain
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with discretion

Job Qualifications

  • Associate's degree and at least one year of relevant experience in recreation, hospitality, tourism, marketing, or communications
  • Demonstrated experience in event planning or event management
  • Valid Washington State driver's license with a safe driving record
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and collaboration platforms
  • Familiarity with event management and scheduling software such as Eventbrite or SignUpGenius
  • Experience with digital communication and social media platforms
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and customer service

Job Duties

  • Manage the review, accuracy, and timely processing of special event permit applications
  • Coordinate with applicants and City departments to ensure all requirements are met
  • Collaborate with local Destination Marketing Organizations to promote tourism
  • Administer and utilize data collection software to analyze visitation and event attendance
  • Build and maintain relationships with hotels, cruises, and tourism officials
  • Assist with administration and documentation of the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee
  • Update and promote the community calendar of events
  • Develop social media and website content related to events and tourism
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal systems and services for events
  • Attend off-site meetings and events throughout Kitsap County
