Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in parks and recreation, event planning, or related field
  • Minimum three years of experience in recreation event planning or programming
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record per city standards
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and special events
  • Ability to supervise and train staff and volunteers
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Experience with budget management and fundraising
  • Ability to interact professionally with diverse groups
  • Commitment to punctuality and regular attendance

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation, event planning, or related field
  • Minimum of three years of related recreation event planning or programming experience
  • Experience coordinating with external agencies and vendors
  • Proven supervisory experience managing staff and volunteers
  • Knowledge of public relations and advertising principles related to event programming
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and event-related software
  • Ability to prepare and interpret budgets
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Plan, coordinate, implement, promote, oversee, and evaluate community special events
  • Coordinate and correspond with outside agencies, including Convention of Visitors Bureau and Chamber of Commerce
  • Supervise, train, and provide guidance to assigned staff and volunteers
  • Select and schedule vendors and oversee entertainment for events
  • Enforce and monitor adherence to safety rules and regulations
  • Perform cost control initiatives and manage event budgets
  • Obtain donations and sponsorships to support events
  • Coordinate volunteers during event development and execution
  • Participate in public forums including City Council and Park Board meetings
  • Collaborate with Director of Communications & Marketing for event outreach and marketing
  • Process Special Event Permit applications and prepare staff reports
  • Supervise and train parks employees and participate in event equipment setup and takedown
  • Perform other duties as assigned
