Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in parks and recreation, event planning, or related field
  • Minimum of three years of related recreation event planning or programming experience
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record as per City standards
  • Availability to work flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and special events
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for prolonged periods
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to follow safety practices and instructions
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of discretion
  • Ability to supervise staff and volunteers effectively

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, event planning, or a related field
  • Three years of related event planning or programming experience
  • Knowledge of city and departmental practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of public relations and advertising related to event programming
  • Ability to supervise staff and volunteers effectively
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience with budget preparation and interpretation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and event-related software
  • Ability to interact professionally and provide effective customer service
  • Ability to speak effectively before various groups
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under time pressures
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Job Duties

  • Plan, coordinate, implement, promote, oversee, and evaluate community special events for the Parks and Recreation Department
  • Coordinate and correspond with outside agencies such as the Convention of Visitors Bureau and Chamber of Commerce for event planning
  • Supervise, train, and provide guidance to assigned staff and volunteers, delegate assignments, and monitor performance
  • Select and schedule vendors and entertainment, and oversee vendors' work
  • Enforce and monitor adherence to safety rules and regulations
  • Perform cost control initiatives and manage event budgets
  • Obtain donations and sponsorships to support events and programs
  • Coordinate volunteers during event development and implementation
  • Participate in public forums including City Council and Park Board meetings
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications and Marketing for event outreach and promotion
  • Process Special Event Permit applications and prepare staff reports for City Council approval
  • Supervise parks employees during event setup and takedown
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
