Job Requirements
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must pass pre-employment and random drug screenings
- Ability to stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended periods
- Physical capability to operate construction and mechanical equipment including trucks, tractors, and various hand and power tools
- Able to read and comprehend mechanical and construction-related instructions and manuals
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public
- Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude for equipment operation and repair
- Ability to follow safety procedures and report hazards promptly
- Flexibility to work irregular hours including nights and weekends
- Must meet regular attendance and punctuality standards
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Six months of work experience preferably in equipment operation, manual labor, construction, or maintenance
- Ability to operate various mechanical and construction equipment
- Familiarity with safety protocols and equipment maintenance
- Effective communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and varying schedules as required by event timing
Job Duties
- Work under the Special Events Crew Supervisor in planning, setup/breakdown, and logistics of city-hosted events
- Ensure accurate inventory, transportation, and placement of staging, signage, and traffic control equipment
- Build and maintain Holidays on the Plaza Ice Rink, operate the Zamboni, and monitor ice conditions
- Collaborate with operations managers for venue setup, breakdown, and layout at city facilities
- Install, inspect, and store event furniture and equipment at venues such as the Tuscaloosa River Market and Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater
- Maintain cleanliness by removing garbage, recycling, and debris from city-owned venues
- Set up safety equipment including metal detectors and signage to ensure venue security and compliance
- Assist backstage and front-of-house operations for concerts and events
- Transport, load, and unload equipment and materials
- Perform manual labor related to event preparation and maintenance
- Inspect and maintain tools and machinery to ensure safety and functionality
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, and public during events and operations
