Job Requirements

  • None for education
  • No experience required, six months experience as a PH with FedEx Ground preferred
  • Ability to train multiple peer PHs simultaneously
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety methods
  • Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly
  • Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, handheld scanners, chutes and unloading devices
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment
  • PHs operating switching equipment must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) file
  • Willingness to work in hot and cold temperatures
  • Ability to lift and carry between 10 and 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in loud noise environments
  • No travel required

  • For PHs operating switching equipment, valid driver’s license and Department of Transportation (DOT) file required

Job Duties

  • Train new PHs in unloading, loading, palletizing, carrying, smalls handling, SWAK, and non-conveyable package handling techniques
  • Provide training to other PHs needing additional instruction on package handling techniques
  • Provide feedback on proper package handling techniques
  • Reinforce dock safety standards among peer PHs
  • Demonstrate all necessary processes and procedures by example
  • Update managers on conditions during the sort for operational efficiency
  • Assist in implementing new package handling procedures and techniques
  • Regularly load, unload, palletize, lift, carry, push and pull packages
  • Utilize hand-to-surface methods for package handling
  • Load and unload packages onto and from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, conveyor system carts and load gratings
  • Lift, carry, push and pull packages continuously for 3-5 hour shifts with potential for multiple shifts
  • Sort packages accurately by scanning, reading labels and charts, and verifying numbers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
