American Farmland Trust (AFT) is a national nonprofit committed to protecting farmland, promoting environmentally sound farming practices, and supporting farm families. Founded in 1980, AFT has permanently conserved nearly 8 million acres of agricultural land across the United States. The organization focuses on a holistic approach to agriculture, emphasizing the land itself, the agricultural methods used, and the farmers and ranchers who sustain these lands. Job Requirements
- bachelor's degree in agriculture, environmental science, natural resources, or related field
- minimum two years relevant experience
- ability to travel within Kentucky
- strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- proficiency in developing educational materials and presentations
- capability to facilitate workshops and focus groups
- commitment to conservation agriculture principles
Job Qualifications
- experience in agriculture, conservation, or related field
- knowledge of Farm Bill Conservation Programs and USDA processes
- strong communication and outreach skills
- ability to build trust with agricultural communities
- experience in data collection and program support
- familiarity with conservation planning and practice implementation
- capability to work collaboratively with partners and stakeholders
Job Duties
- build and strengthen relationships with farmers and landowners in Kentucky
- partner with stakeholders and producers to build trust and transparency around conservation planning and program processes
- identify and address public concerns and misconceptions regarding conservation programs
- assist NRCS in identifying and engaging farmers unfamiliar with USDA conservation programs
- help develop educational materials like publications and presentations
- provide farmer engagement opportunities including workshops and events
- offer pre-application and planning assistance and serve as liaison with USDA and partner agencies
