Job Description

American Farmland Trust (AFT) is a national nonprofit committed to protecting farmland, promoting environmentally sound farming practices, and supporting farm families. Founded in 1980, AFT has permanently conserved nearly 8 million acres of agricultural land across the United States. The organization focuses on a holistic approach to agriculture, emphasizing the land itself, the agricultural methods used, and the farmers and ranchers who sustain these lands. Job Requirements

  • bachelor's degree in agriculture, environmental science, natural resources, or related field
  • minimum two years relevant experience
  • ability to travel within Kentucky
  • strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • proficiency in developing educational materials and presentations
  • capability to facilitate workshops and focus groups
  • commitment to conservation agriculture principles

Job Qualifications

  • experience in agriculture, conservation, or related field
  • knowledge of Farm Bill Conservation Programs and USDA processes
  • strong communication and outreach skills
  • ability to build trust with agricultural communities
  • experience in data collection and program support
  • familiarity with conservation planning and practice implementation
  • capability to work collaboratively with partners and stakeholders

Job Duties

  • build and strengthen relationships with farmers and landowners in Kentucky
  • partner with stakeholders and producers to build trust and transparency around conservation planning and program processes
  • identify and address public concerns and misconceptions regarding conservation programs
  • assist NRCS in identifying and engaging farmers unfamiliar with USDA conservation programs
  • help develop educational materials like publications and presentations
  • provide farmer engagement opportunities including workshops and events
  • offer pre-application and planning assistance and serve as liaison with USDA and partner agencies
