Job Requirements

  • Prior experience in a commercial kitchen setting
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Proficiency in food safety and sanitation practices

Job Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a sous chef or similar role
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Knowledge of kitchen health and safety regulations
  • Ability to train and mentor culinary staff
  • Familiarity with food quality standards and inventory management
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Culinary arts diploma or equivalent

Job Duties

  • Train and validate culinary team members through kitchen training materials
  • Maintain a fun and professional work environment grounded in company values
  • Participate in new team member onboarding and orientation
  • Assure food quality and standards per team member
  • Maintain standardized training programs and update recipes
  • Provide performance feedback to Chef de Cuisine
  • Cross-train culinary team members on all kitchen line aspects
  • Support management in café priorities
  • Ensure adherence to menu implementations and procedural changes
  • Lead by example setting daily standards
  • Run features program within Sterling Food Philosophy
  • Maintain guest-friendly environment
  • Perform Dress for Success procedures before and after shifts
  • Adhere to and communicate cook times
  • Conduct continuing education on food specs and standards
  • Assist with weekly inventories
  • Review vendor pricing accuracy
  • Check and manage orders and par levels
  • Aid in improving café year-over-year performance
  • Manage back-of-house maintenance and equipment logs
  • Keep kitchen and walk-in organized and clean
  • Inspect deliveries using freshest ingredients
  • Monitor proper food receiving, storage, and rotation
  • Minimize spoilage and waste
  • Maintain safety and sanitation standards
  • Ensure compliance with health codes and achieve 'A' rating
  • Complete daily line checks
  • Address issues promptly
  • Ensure proper utensil use
  • Educate team on sanitation and safety
  • Train management and hourly team members
  • Execute equipment cleaning schedules
  • Complete weekly maintenance walkthroughs with GM
