Job Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a sous chef or in a similar leadership role in a fine dining or upscale restaurant setting
  • Strong culinary skills and a passion for creating innovative and high-quality dishes
  • Excellent knowledge of cooking techniques, flavor profiles, and ingredient sourcing
  • Leadership abilities with the capacity to motivate and inspire a team
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on maintaining standards of excellence
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Scheduled for a minimum of 44 hrs a week
  • Culinary degree or certification from an accredited institution is preferred but not required

Job Duties

  • Assist the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef in menu development, recipe creation, and food costing while maintaining profitability
  • Supervise and mentor kitchen staff, providing guidance and training to ensure consistent execution of dishes
  • Lead by example in maintaining impeccable standards of food quality, taste, and presentation
  • Oversee daily kitchen operations, including preparation, cooking, and plating of dishes during service
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef to manage inventory, order supplies, and minimize waste
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, conducting regular inspections and implementing corrective actions as needed
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting open communication and teamwork among kitchen staff
  • Assist in scheduling and labor management to optimize productivity and efficiency
  • Act as a liaison between the kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure seamless communication and service
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Executive Chef or Executive Sous Chef
  • Enforce all policy handbook rules established by Bender's Tavern or Executive Chef
