Open Door Mission is a longstanding Gospel Rescue Mission established in 1954 with a profound commitment to breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty in its community. Located in Omaha, the mission operates a campus that provides 917 safe shelter beds to individuals experiencing homelessness and serves more than 4,747 nutritious meals daily. Job Requirements

  • Visible relationship with Christ and ability to share the gospel
  • regular attendee of a local Christian church
  • proficiency in general computer operations
  • 2+ years of culinary education or experience
  • experience cooking for large groups of people
  • high level of flexibility and creativity in cooking

Job Duties

  • Prepare meals for ODM's dining hall/cafeteria alongside the Hospitality Manager, Kitchen Associate, and other staff/volunteers
  • direct and encourage volunteers from the community and current ODM residents assisting in the kitchen
  • creatively utilize donated food products in recipe and menu creation
  • ensure the kitchen is clean and safe, maintaining an "Excellent" health department rating
  • oversee kitchen operations in the absence of the Hospitality Manager
  • exemplify Christ and share the gospel as opportunities arise
