The Sous Chef plays a critical role in the culinary operations of a restaurant or food service establishment. As a key member of the kitchen leadership team, the Sous Chef works under the direction of the Executive Chef to plan, organize, and direct all areas of food preparation. This role demands a high level of culinary skill, creativity, and organizational ability to ensure that the kitchen functions efficiently and effectively. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- two years of experience in culinary leadership
- ability to perform all essential duties
- knowledge of sanitation and safety regulations
- excellent communication skills
- ability to manage and train kitchen staff
- flexibility to work day and night shifts
- ability to handle customer concerns professionally
Job Qualifications
- Culinary arts degree preferred
- five years of experience in similar role preferred
- multi-unit or multi-venue experience preferred
- strong culinary and leadership skills
- proficiency in inventory management
- effective team management and scheduling abilities
- knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
Job Duties
- Work with the Executive Chef to develop new menu options based on seasonal changes and customer demand
- assist with the preparation and planning of meal designs
- ensure that kitchen activities operate in a timely manner
- resolve customer concerns
- monitor and record inventory and if required order new supplies
- provide support to culinary staff with various tasks including line cooking food preparation and dish plating
- train new kitchen staff to meet business and kitchen standards
- create schedules for kitchen employees and evaluate performance
- adhere to and implement sanitation regulations and safety regulations
- manage the kitchen team in the absence of the Executive Chef
- maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
- may recruit interview and or discipline staff under the direction of the Executive Chef
