Job Requirements
- Experience in culinary roles focused on high-quality service
- past experience serving seniors or vulnerable populations preferred
- previous roles in healthcare, hospitality, or hotels beneficial
- leadership experience in culinary professions valued
- advanced culinary skills demonstrating innovation and creativity
- confidence engaging with seniors of various physical and cognitive capabilities
- solid safety awareness and knowledge of food safety, infection control, and cleanliness standards
- ability to manage kitchen operations including labor and procurement
- calm demeanor in stressful situations
- strong communication and team player skills
- ability to adapt quickly to resident needs
- understanding or willingness to learn about dementia and care for residents with dementia
- leadership capability to motivate and manage teams
Job Qualifications
- At least 21 years of age
- a combination of education and experience that supports Sous Chef status
- current negative TB test
- knowledge of or ability to quickly learn regulatory standards for kitchen operations
- willingness to learn working in a healthcare/assisted living environment
- ServeSafe certified or able to obtain certification within 60 days of hire
- ability to pass a criminal record/background check
- good time management skills
- ability to work independently with little oversight
Job Duties
- Engage with seniors individually and in groups to understand their needs and preferences
- implement and assist with the food and beverage program for residents
- create menus that incorporate proper nutrition, diversity, and creative flair
- promote and maintain safety and cleanliness standards in the kitchen
- manage culinary labor, purchasing, procurement, and equipment maintenance
- train and teach culinary techniques to team members
- manage kitchen operations calmly and efficiently under pressure
