Job Description
DECANTsf is a esteemed wine bar and retail establishment located in the vibrant city of San Francisco, California. Renowned for its commitment to exceptional hospitality and quality wine experiences, DECANTsf transcends the traditional notion of service by focusing on genuine human connections. The company fosters a welcoming environment where guests feel valued, heard, and cared for, making each visit memorable. As a small business deeply embedded in the local community, DECANTsf offers a unique blend of retail, bar service, and events centered around the love of wine and the joy of sharing it with others. The team at DECANTsf prides itself on creating a space that is organized, joyful, and dynamic, ensuring that every guest's experience is elevated beyond expectations.
The Sommelier and Administrative Assistant role at DECANTsf is a part-time position that blends hands-on bar service with critical administrative support. This role is perfect for a passionate individual who thrives at the intersection of hospitality and small business operations. Responsibilities span from managing the wine club, handling inventory and shipping orders, to assisting with marketing campaigns and event activations. On the front lines at the bar, the Sommelier will interact directly with a diverse clientele ranging from wine novices to seasoned collectors, providing personalized recommendations and fostering lasting relationships. The position demands a proactive, detail-oriented professional who is equally comfortable polishing glassware and dispatching email communications.
Starting at $21 per hour, with compensation increasing based on certification and experience, this role also offers tips, bi-annual performance reviews, staff tastings, winery visits, and numerous growth opportunities. The working hours include 3 to 5 shifts per week, mainly during evenings and weekends, providing flexibility but requiring availability on Sundays as well. DECANTsf seeks candidates who see hospitality as a generous act rather than just a job, who are community-minded and excited to engage authentically with guests and colleagues alike. Technology skills are important, as the role involves using Google Suite, spreadsheets, and other digital tools for administrative tasks.
Joining DECANTsf means becoming part of a team that views hospitality as more than transactions; it is about creating connections and surprises that delight every guest. This role is an exceptional chance to expand one’s sommelier expertise, learn the nuances of small business management, and contribute meaningfully to a thriving, community-focused wine bar. Ideal candidates possess formal wine education, at least two years of front-of-house wine experience, and the ability to obtain necessary certifications quickly. DECANTsf values diversity and inclusivity and actively encourages applicants from all backgrounds who share a profound commitment to hospitality and community building.
