Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in hospitality or wine studies
  • minimum 3 years of experience as a sommelier or in a similar role
  • excellent communication skills
  • strong knowledge of wine and beverage service
  • experience managing inventory and negotiating with vendors
  • ability to train and lead staff
  • proficiency with POS and inventory management systems
  • capacity to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • commitment to maintaining high standards of service and cleanliness
  • knowledge of health and safety standards
  • ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment

Job Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a sommelier or similar wine management role
  • comprehensive knowledge of wine varieties, production, and service

Job Duties

  • Manage and maintain the overall venue wine program
  • communicate effectively with guests of varying wine knowledge
  • train staff and managers on wine service and knowledge
  • organize and maintain wine inventory and cellar pars
  • ensure adherence to wine service standards and steps of service
  • collaborate on menu updates and wine selection research
  • oversee wine cost control and profitability
  • assist service team in wine pairing and selection
  • conduct regular wine and beverage training sessions
  • manage wine purchasing and vendor negotiations
  • ensure cleanliness and organization of all wine areas
  • schedule bartenders and barbacks
  • curate and update wine lists with Beverage Director
  • organize wine tasting events
  • manage beverage costs, inventory, and staff scheduling
  • perform monthly inventory and ordering
  • ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • maintain brand and service standards
  • communicate menu changes and specials to staff
  • provide exceptional and responsible beverage service
  • respond to corked or spoiled wine issues
  • push staff incentive programs
  • maintain liquor room organization and security
  • monitor sales and push less popular wines as needed
