Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- previous experience in a sommelier or wine steward position
- strong leadership and team development skills
- excellent people skills
- analytical thinking and financial acumen
- ability to work in a start-up environment and be a team player
- attention to detail
- commitment to high standards of service
- ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
- ability to stand, walk, sit, and climb stairs frequently
- compliance with federal, state, county and municipal health, safety and labor regulations
Job Qualifications
- extensive knowledge of wine varietals and which regions produce each type
- knowledge of local vineyards and wineries
- understanding of the winemaking process
- good communication skills
- availability to work during opening hours including weekends and holidays
- ability to understand and comply with all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines and training programs
Job Duties
- assist the Restaurant General Manager and Beverage Director in leading the restaurant and staff
- organize the wine rooms
- advise guests on wines based on personal tastes and food choices
- ensure wines are served at the right temperature and within the proper glassware
- store open bottles properly to maintain quality and integrity
- manage the wine cellar and ensure it is fully stocked
- decant wine for guests
- develop and train staff to learn wine tasting and service
- liaise with purchasing department and conduct inventory responsibilities
- investigate and resolve member service issues
