Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • previous experience in a sommelier or wine steward position
  • strong leadership and team development skills
  • excellent people skills
  • analytical thinking and financial acumen
  • ability to work in a start-up environment and be a team player
  • attention to detail
  • commitment to high standards of service
  • ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • ability to stand, walk, sit, and climb stairs frequently
  • compliance with federal, state, county and municipal health, safety and labor regulations

Job Qualifications

  • extensive knowledge of wine varietals and which regions produce each type
  • knowledge of local vineyards and wineries
  • understanding of the winemaking process
  • good communication skills
  • availability to work during opening hours including weekends and holidays
  • ability to understand and comply with all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines and training programs

Job Duties

  • assist the Restaurant General Manager and Beverage Director in leading the restaurant and staff
  • organize the wine rooms
  • advise guests on wines based on personal tastes and food choices
  • ensure wines are served at the right temperature and within the proper glassware
  • store open bottles properly to maintain quality and integrity
  • manage the wine cellar and ensure it is fully stocked
  • decant wine for guests
  • develop and train staff to learn wine tasting and service
  • liaise with purchasing department and conduct inventory responsibilities
  • investigate and resolve member service issues
