Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years experience working in social or public service environment
  • Ability to interview clients and determine eligibility
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records
  • Basic computer literacy and office equipment operation
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements
  • Ability to perform light physical tasks associated with office work

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of experience in social or public service environment assisting the public
  • Knowledge of social service practices and principles
  • Ability to interview clients and assess their needs
  • Proficiency in preparing accurate client records and reports
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with diverse populations
  • Basic computer skills including typing and data entry
  • Ability to operate general office equipment
  • Understanding of program guidelines and eligibility criteria
  • Capacity to build and maintain professional relationships with community agencies.

Job Duties

  • Greets and interviews clients to determine eligibility for assistance based on program guidelines
  • Records clients' disposition and pertinent information such as income, expenses, and family history
  • Assists clients in completing applications for assistance
  • Prepares and processes food, clothing, and furniture vouchers for eligible clients
  • Provides clients with food from the pantry and maintains inventory records
  • Gives information on lodging availability
  • Assists in processing rent and utility financial assistance
  • Serves as liaison to community agencies to coordinate client assistance
  • Maintains and files accurate client records while ensuring confidentiality
  • Prepares and compiles statistical reports on services provided
  • Answers telephones and directs calls
  • Responds to public inquiries and provides information about programs and services
  • Records and distributes accurate messages by telephone and email
  • Receives and greets visitors and clients
  • Assists with general clerical duties including typing, filing, and mail distribution
  • Receives, processes, and receipts donations and deliveries
  • Coordinates and supports special and seasonal projects
  • Performs routine office tasks to support secretaries and program staff
  • Maintains neatness of reception area and stocks supplies
  • Sets appointments for case manager
  • Makes announcements and validates parking tickets
  • Photocopies, collates, and staples documents
  • Screens sales representatives soliciting to The Salvation Army
  • Connects calls and manages telephone lists.
