Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two years of experience working in social or public service environment
  • experience assisting the public
  • ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • ability to type and operate various office equipment
  • ability to sit for extended periods with occasional standing and walking
  • ability to lift and carry light objects up to 25 lbs
  • commitment to the religious mission of The Salvation Army
  • excellent attendance record

Job Qualifications

  • ability to determine client eligibility based on guidelines
  • ability to prepare accurate client records and reports
  • proficiency with office equipment including computer and telephone

  • ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • typing and keypunching skills
  • ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically
  • ability to build and maintain effective relationships with community agencies

Job Duties

  • Greets and interviews clients requesting assistance to determine eligibility
  • records clients' disposition and pertinent information such as income, expenses, family and work history
  • assists clients in completing applications for assistance
  • prepares, completes, and processes vouchers for food, clothing, and furniture
  • directs clients to appropriate service locations such as the Lodge kitchen or Thrift Store
  • provides food from pantry and maintains pantry inventory
  • assists in processing rent and utility financial assistance
  • serves as liaison to community agencies
  • prepares and maintains accurate client records and statistics
  • answers and directs telephone calls
  • receives, greets, and announces visitors and clients
  • provides information about services
  • records and distributes messages
  • receives and receipts deliveries and donations
  • performs routine clerical duties such as typing, filing, photocopying, and document preparation
  • assists with special programs and seasonal projects
  • maintains neatness of the reception area
  • stocks daily bread shelves after screening
  • sets appointments for case manager
  • makes announcements over the intercom
  • validates parking tickets
  • proofreads correspondence
  • connects and logs telephone calls
  • sorts and distributes mail
