Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • experience in cooking and food service operations
  • supervisory or team leader experience preferred
  • ability to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds frequently
  • ability to stand and walk for long periods
  • willingness to work in warm, noisy kitchen conditions with exposure to steam, fumes, and temperature extremes
  • compliance with federal employment policies including background checks
  • mandatory direct deposit for pay
  • eligible to pass National Agency Check and Inquiries

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to direct work activities of a mixed occupational crew
  • ability to plan, coordinate, and time assignments for meal preparation
  • knowledge of food characteristics including freshness, color, consistency, and taste
  • ability to instruct lower-grade cooks on cooking procedures
  • ability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment
  • knowledge of safety and sanitary regulations according to Navy Medical and Marine Corps standards
  • certification or willingness to maintain Navy Medical food safety certification and ServSafe training

Job Duties

  • Serve as a working leader of a crew of cooks, food service workers, and laborers
  • assign tasks and initiate work based on supervisor's instructions
  • ensure availability of recipes, supplies, equipment, and utensils
  • document food preparation and inventory accurately
  • order supplies daily for menu requirements
  • research and resolve discrepancies
  • motivate and train crew members
  • enforce safety, sanitation, and housekeeping standards
  • prepare a variety of menu items including special diet entrees and desserts
  • maintain food temperatures during holding and serving
  • assist with inventory counts and cash handling
  • rotate food inventories to prevent spoilage
  • prepare cold foods and platters
  • set up and replenish salad bars
  • provide courteous customer service and resolve issues promptly
  • report workplace hazards and safety incidents
  • adhere to equal employment opportunity and anti-harassment policies
  • perform other assigned duties
